  1. Synopsis:
  2.    set auto_whowas [on|off|toggle]
  3.  
  4. Description:
  5.    When turned on, this setting will cause the client to automatically
  6.    issue a WHOWAS for any WHOIS query that returns an error (generally
  7.    meaning the queried nickname is not on irc).  The client will limit
  8.    the number of WHOWAS replies displayed to the number specified by
  9.    the NUM_OF_WHOWAS variable.

  11.    If this variable is turned off, the client will not automatically
  12.    send a WHOWAS after any failed WHOIS query.
